Is it too late to start racing?

xx_oneheart_xx asked:

I am 14 years old and i have a dream to become a formula 1 race car driver. My dad dosn’t condone of tis so i have never thought of it. Now i am older more independant i am looking into it. I am saving up for my first kart so i will be 15 when i get that. IS IT TOO LATE TO START OR DO I STILL HAVE A CHANCE? I have alot of knowledge on racing lines and braking and mechnical knowledge too. There is a club in calgary that i would get involved with strait away which holds youth racing championships. I need to know whether its worth while chacing my dream or if it is going to lead me no where.

!!! YES I AM A GIRL!!! (many people thinks this gives me a disadvantage)

Not at all! Keep dreaming and working hard. Some drivers started even later than you (former F1 pilot Tiago Monteiro didn’t even start racing until he was 21!)

I think that you are a little old to start, but definitely not too old. You should go for it.

Frankly, I think that being a girl is an advantage in auto racing. Women typically weigh less than men, which would be a huge advantage in cart racing and F1. I remember a year or so when other IRL drivers were complaining that due to her weight Danica Patrick had an unfair advantage over the men. They are right, she had an advantage, but it isn’t unfair. I was just thinking “lose some weight fat ass.” Think of it this way; bigger racers in the Tour de France do not complain that the small, lighter racers win the mountainous stages. The small racers have an advantage over the bigger racers, but it isn’t unfair.

You are a brave girl !! All you have to do is prove it on the track, break a lot of egos. Good luck!

    1. Just because you’re a few years behind doesn’t make you too old. You’ve got at least ten years to break your way into F1.

    2. Even if can’t make it to F1, you can always aspire to NASCAR, they’ve got guys racing while collecting social security checks.

    3. I think being female has as many advantages as disadvantages in racing, so don’t worry about that.
